Budget taps from generic brands use plastic ceramic cartridges and thin chrome plating. Within 12 months they drip again, the chrome pits, and you're paying twice. We recommend Bristan, Grohe, Hansgrohe or Mira for taps that genuinely last 15+ years.
If the cistern internals are worn, replace them — usually £80–£150 of parts and labour. If the pan is cracked, the close-coupling is leaking onto the floor, or the water marks won't shift, full replacement at £350–£550 fitted is the better long-term call.
